This year MediaCorp Studios’ Chinese Drama division celebrates 25 years of drama productions. The division’s productions account for 80% of MediaCorp TV, Channel 8's airtime, a 24-hour free-to-air Chinese channel.
Hugely popular productions include Holland V, Double Happiness, Beyond the Axis of Truth II, The Champion, Love Concierge, The Rainbow Connections and A Life of Hope, which reach out to more than 75% of the TV audiences weekly.
Chinese Drama's excellent production values have earned them numerous production and acting awards at both regional and international competitions. These include the Asian Television Awards, The New York Festivals , Promax Awards, the 17th China TV Drama Feitian Awards 1998 and Silver Screen Awards 1998, just to name a few.
In addition, the exciting and socially relevant productions of Chinese Drama have given rise to several stars. Local ingénues Zoe Tay, Fann Wong, Christopher Lee , Xiang Yun, Tay Pinghui, Chen Hanwei, Huang Biren, Ivy Lee, Jacelyn Tay, Joanne Peh, Qi Yuwu, Jeanette Aw, Yvonne Lim, Edmund Chen and Terence Cao have captured the viewers' heart and become household names.
